sneak peek

Thanks, Kim, for letting me put these on here! Enjoy!

encyclopedia of our ordinary life

Amy & Kev, circa Jan, 1999. I loved that Pleather coat.
My roommate stole it later that year. :(

So, since today is our 9th anniversary, I decided to post a little bit from a scrapbook I'm doing called Encyclopedia of Our Ordinary Life. It's an idea I came across from a book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal by a similar title and I thought it was a great way to tell our story. (okay, cue the sappy music). It's basically an alphabetical list of things describing one or both of us, things we like and/or dislike, etc. The entire scrapbook is rather large so in the interest of time and saving you all from boredom I'll only post some of the letters here. Happy Anniversary to us!!

B -- Bed-time movies: I am almost completely unable to fall asleep without first zoning out to the tv. I know, there's tons to be said for and against this and everyone has an opinion about having a tv in the bedroom but rather than laying there and trying to shut off my mind from all the days' happenings I've found that the best thing for me to fall asleep is to put on an old episode of the Dick Van Dyke show on DVD and I'm usually almost asleep before the episode is over.

C -- Cotton Balls: Sometime you should throw a cotton ball at Kev and see what happens. He has the most bizarre phobia. He absolutely cannot stand the sound they make when you tear them apart. Really, really funny.

Amy and Kev, shortly after meeting.
The first weekend he took me home to see his parents, circa Sept. 1998

D -- Dave Matthews Band: Both of us LOVE THIS BAND!! When I was preggo with Gennie I played these CD's exclusively in my car on the way to and from work everyday and when she was a few months old we happened to turn it on and she smiled and flapped her arms like crazy.
F -- Forehead Butt: Somewhere along the line Kev discovered that when I frown I get a crease in my forehead that looks like a butt crack. Fantastic. And he delights in reminding me of it especially when I'm mad at him. (poke, poke, "you've got a forehead butt!") Charming.

K -- Kids: One of the biggest things we had in common when we met was how much we both wanted kids. He was really excited to be a dad someday and I love that about him. We both agree that we may not ever have much money but we will always take time for the kids. N -- Noodles: Given the choice of just about any kind of food in the world, Kev will pick pasta. Any type, any shape, topped with any sauce. As long as they aren't the spinach flavor ones.

R -- Rubber Ducky Socks: Yes, in lieu of traditional wedding footwear, I chose blue socks with tiny rubber duckies all over them for my trek down the aisle. I thought they went nicely with the stacked white tennis shoes I wore them in.

S -- Stove: One, sacrificed in the name of husband/wife communication. :)
There's a taste of our life. It's been a great 9 years and I can't wait for what's in store in the years to come!

i hate technology + fabulous news

Anyway, about Gennie's news. She made the most important decision of her entire life a week ago when she decided to pray and ask Jesus to forgive her sins and be her Savior!! We could not possibly be more proud! My mom gave her a tiny booklet about how God love us (basically a Plan of Salvation for kids) that she was going to use this year for our Vacation Bible School and Gennie had us read it to her several nights before she went to bed. The last page had a little prayer written out for kids to follow to ask Jesus to forgive them and she was very interested in it but when Kev asked her a couple times if she wanted to pray the prayer with our help she said "not tonite, but maybe sometime." Then on June 29 she came into the front room after she got ready for bed, tossed the booklet to Kev and said "Okay, so I want to pray the prayer tonite." Wahoo! The three of us read thru the booklet again and then helped her say the words and she asked Jesus into her heart! We made a big deal of it for her and wrote the date and info in her little bible. Very exciting!

I have a whole mess of photos from what we've been up to this summer just waiting to be edited and posted on here so as soon as my "work stuff" is done I'll be all over those getting them on here for your viewing pleasure. Highlights include a zillion trips to the park with friends, water play, VBS this week, tons of work in the backyard getting ready for Josiah's 2nd birthday in 2 weeks, etc. Oh, and a particularly funny set showing our newest attempt at keeping Josiah from hurting himself.

Soon!

limping along

so, our computer is seriously in trouble. not like, "ooooo, you're so busted!!" but like, on it's last legs. we've been trying to hold out until windows 7 comes out so we don't have to mess with vista - we dealt with windows ME a few years back and have no intention of reliving that atrocity - but it's been really bad this last week and I even got the "blue screen of death" that means it's dangerously close to stopping altogether. i let it sit over the weekend and was able to boot it up this morning but i'm scared to put anymore photos on it until kev has a chance to crash it on purpose and reinstall everything.

for now i'm backing up everything in at least 6 different places and praying that i have enough time to proof out several photo shoots I've done in the last few days. i'll be back soon with photos of what we're up to, including some exciting news from Gennie about her eternity!

wow, i'm surprised it let me type this posssssss sssss sssssstt tt tttt *%&^ $# &* ( (& ^(&
